y2mate YouTube Video Downloader
Drop in a link from YouTube, decide between MP4 and MP3, and keep the file on your phone or computer.
Videos, Shorts and YouTube Music links all work.
What is y2mate?
y2mate is a free web tool that turns YouTube videos into MP4 files or MP3 sound files, straight from your browser.
Nothing gets installed and nobody asks you to sign up. After you paste a link, you see every quality the video has, each with its real file size. Tap one: the file is usually ready in a few seconds, then tap Download to save it. The page is built for phones first, with large rows and one clear column.

Why people use y2mate
MP4 and MP3 in one place
One link gives you both: every video quality from 144p to 1080p and an MP3 of the sound. Two tabs switch between them.
Quick downloads
Tap a quality and the file is usually ready within seconds. Tap Download, then grab 360p and the MP3 one after the other if you like.
Real sizes before you start
Each quality shows its file size, so you can keep an eye on storage and mobile data before you tap.
Made for phone browsers
Big rows to tap and one clear column. It works in Safari, Chrome and other common browsers on iPhone and Android.
Shorts and music links work
Paste a normal video, a Short or a YouTube Music link. Shorts keep their vertical shape when you save them as MP4.
No account, nothing to install
You do not sign up, log in or add an extension. Open the page, paste the link and save the file.
Three steps to download a YouTube video
Copy the video link
On a phone, use the Share button in the YouTube app and pick Copy link. On a computer, copy the page address at the top.
Paste it at the top
y2mate starts by itself when you paste. You can also tap Start.
Tap a quality
A small window shows the progress. When it reaches 100%, tap Download to save the file.
Questions and answers
Is y2mate free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free to use. You do not need an account, an email address or an app. Open the page in your browser, paste a YouTube link and choose the format you want to save.
Which qualities can I download?
MP4 comes in six sizes, from 144p up to 1080p Full HD, as far as the video itself goes. MP3 comes at 320, 256 or 128 kbps. Every option shows its real file size before you tap it.
Can I save more than one file at a time?
Yes. Save one quality, then tap the next: 720p, then 360p, then the MP3 of the same video. There is no cap on how many files you save.
Will it work on my iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. Everything runs inside your browser: Safari on an iPhone or iPad, and Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox on Android. Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook computers work just the same.
Where do my downloads go?
When the file is ready, tap Download and your browser saves it. Files go to the Downloads folder on Android and on computers; on iPhone, they are in the Files app under Downloads.
Does it handle YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Treat the Short like any other link. Pick an MP4 to keep the upright picture, or open the MP3 tab if you only want its audio.
Why does a video sometimes fail to load?
If a video is private, removed or blocked where you are, it cannot be saved, and a mistyped link will not work either. Sometimes the video service is just slow to answer; then try again in a moment. The page tells you what happened.
Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
Stick to videos you are allowed to keep, like your own uploads or clips the owner lets you save, and use them only for yourself. Copyright and YouTube's terms still apply; our Terms and Conditions go into detail.
