y2mate in a nutshell

y2mate is a free browser tool for saving YouTube videos as MP4 files or MP3 sound. Paste a link, pick a format and a quality, and the file lands on your phone or computer.

How a download works

1. Grab a link from YouTube: a normal video, a Short or a YouTube Music track.
2. Paste it into the box at the top of the home page.
3. Tap a quality. The file is ready in a few seconds; then tap Download to save it.

What you can save

Video as MP4 from 144p up to 1080p (whatever the video offers) and audio as MP3 at 320, 256 or 128 kbps, each file up to 2 GB. Every option lists its real size before you tap, and a Download button appears as soon as the file is ready.

What y2mate can't do

• Video goes up to 1080p and no higher.
• It does not cut or trim videos; you always get the whole file.
• Only public videos can be saved.
• One link gives one video, so playlists are not saved as a whole.

Made for small screens

y2mate is mostly opened on phones, so small screens came first: big rows to tap, a single column, and files that open the moment you tap. Safari, Chrome and other mobile browsers work, and computers work just as well.
