Save YouTube videos as MP4
With y2mate you can save a YouTube video as an MP4 file in the quality you choose.
Android phones, iPhones and computers can all use it straight from the browser. Paste a link, compare the qualities and their sizes, then tap the one you want. The file is ready in moments and saved with one tap on Download, so you can grab a 1080p copy for the laptop and a 360p copy for the phone one after the other.
Pick a resolution
- 1080p
- Full HD for big screens
- 720p
- Phones and tablets, a good balance
- 480p
- Clear on small screens
- 360p
- Saves data
- 240p
- For slow connections
- 144p
- The smallest file
The real size of each quality is shown for every video. Sometimes 360p is bigger than 480p because the two are encoded differently, so check the size if storage matters.
Long videos work too
Films, full concerts and long streams are listed just like short clips, in every quality they have and with the real size of each. Each file can be up to 2 GB; if a quality is bigger, pick a lower one. A long video simply takes a little longer to prepare.
Tip: on mobile data, check the size first. 360p or 480p keeps a long video small.

MP4 questions
How high does the quality go?
Up to 1080p Full HD, as long as the video was uploaded in it. Smaller options go all the way down to 144p, and every one shows its size.
Is there a size limit for long videos?
Yes, each file can be up to 2 GB. Long videos are listed in every quality they have, each with its real size; if one is over 2 GB, choose a lower quality. On mobile data, a lower quality such as 480p saves time and storage.
Why can 360p be bigger than 480p?
The two qualities are encoded in different ways, so a 360p file is sometimes larger than the 480p one. That is why we show the real size of each quality instead of a guess.
Do Shorts work as MP4?
Yes. Paste the Shorts link and pick a quality. The video stays vertical, just as you watched it in the app.
Can I save two qualities of the same video?
Yes. Save 1080p, then tap 360p and save that too, for example. You can save as many qualities as you need.
Can I download any video I like?
Only keep videos you are allowed to, such as your own clips or content the owner lets you save, and for personal use only. The rules are in our Terms and Conditions.
